BBQ : Reuse of meat marinade in a "water/charcoal smoker" water pan.?

How to arrange charcoal in my smoker for a long burn with little or no intervention? Have pics of smoker.?
There probably is a way to stack or organize the charcoal in my smoker to do a long consistent burn.
Here is my smoker. It is a charbroil model.
